Panel Discussion I: Nepal as a Regional Education Hub
The first panel discussion, “Nepal as a Regional Education Hub,” brought together distinguished representatives from diplomacy, academia, and educational leadership to explore Nepal’s growing potential as an emerging destination for higher education within South Asia and beyond. Moderated by Mr. Asish Thakur, the session fostered an insightful dialogue on how Nepal can strategically position itself within the global education ecosystem through international collaboration, institutional strengthening, quality education, and innovation.
The discussion examined the broader role of higher education not only as an academic driver but also as a catalyst for economic growth, international diplomacy, tourism development, knowledge exchange, and talent retention. Panelists highlighted Nepal’s unique opportunities to leverage its educational institutions, cultural diversity, and regional positioning to attract international students and strengthen its global education footprint.
Key reflections emphasized the importance of building robust international partnerships, expanding research collaboration, enhancing institutional capacity, and increasing global visibility for Nepali institutions. The conversation further explored the need for policy support, quality assurance mechanisms, and investment in research ecosystems to elevate Nepal’s competitiveness in the international education landscape.
The panel also underscored the importance of fostering stronger multi-stakeholder engagement among government agencies, universities, international institutions, development partners, and industry stakeholders to create a globally connected and sustainable higher education ecosystem.
As Nepal continues to advance its internationalization efforts, the discussion reaffirmed that collaborative action, innovation, and strategic policy interventions will be essential in realizing the country’s aspiration of becoming a regional education hub and a destination for globally relevant, quality-driven higher education.
